BURLINGTON — The Fairfield basketball teams went into Burlington on Tuesday night looking for a couple of wins, but the pesky Grayhounds were too much in a Southeast Conference doubleheader.
Burlington took the girls’ game 62-25 and the boys’ game 69-51 to send the Trojans home empty-handed.
The Fairfield girls trailed just 16-6 after one quarter, but Burlington put together an impressive second-period, shutting Fairfield down 23-0 to take a 39-6 advantage into the second half.
Savannah Hollander scored over half of the Trojans’ points, finishing the night with 13.
The boys were done in by a Grayhound team that was itching for its first win of the season. Burlington was up 19-4 after the first quarter, and the Grayhounds never looked back.
Despite the loss, Sam Weaton had a nice night scoring, putting up 10 points to lead the Trojans.
The Fairfield girls are now 0-8 on the season. The boys are 1-7 and both teams are still looking for that first conference victory.
