Fairfield basketball splits in Keokuk
The Trojan boys win, as the girls lose

KEOKUK — As the regular season draws closer to its end, the Fairfield boys and girls basketball teams just keep getting better and it showed on Friday night against Southeast Conference champion Keokuk.
The boys dominated the Chiefs in every aspect of game, holding them under 10 in all four quarters and coming away with a 49-21 victory. The girls fell in a tight race, in which a strong second half by the Chiefs gave them the edge, 51-43.
In the boys’ contest, Fairfield outscored Keokuk 13-4 in the first quarter and 10-5 in the second quarter, taking a 23-9 lead at the half. The second half was no different, as the Trojans outscored the Chiefs 26-12 to pull away with the win.
JJ Lane and Max Weaton dropped in 16 points a piece for Fairfield. Sam Weaton finished with five points. Hunter Cecchini had four points. Tate Allen, Myles McEntee, Ethan Hunger and Joey Valdez all finished with two points.
The boys improve to 6-10 on the season and 2-7 in conference play.
On the girls side of things, Keokuk opened the game with a 18-9 first quarter before Fairfield answered with a 12-4 second to make it a 22-21 ballgame in favor of the Chiefs. Keokuk was able to edge Fairfield with a big second half, 29-22.
Danielle Breen and Mallory Lyon scored 12 each for the Trojans. Delaney Breen added eight. Brynley Allison finished with five points. Anna Dunlap had four. Kelsey Pacha scored two points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Trojans drop to 10-7 overall and 6-3 in Southeast Conference play.
