Fairfield blast past Davis County
Trojans sweep Mustangs in 3A Region 8 quarterfinal
FAIRFIELD — Fairfield volleyball notched its first victory of the postseason on Tuesday night with the 3-0 sweep of Davis County.
Davis County battle in all three sets, but couldn’t keep pace with Fairfield in the end, falling 25-15, 25-13 and 25-21 in the Class 3A Region 8 quarterfinal matchup.
The Trojans (20-11) controlled each of the first two sets early, before a pair of runs by the Mustangs pull them back into it midway through the contest.
However, Fairfield closed strong in each as a heavy mix of Lilly Bergren and Rowan Terrell coupled with Claire Thompson help the Trojans win in dominant fashion.
The two squads battle throughout the entirety of the third set, but in the end, it proved to be Fairfield’s night.
The Trojans were led by Maddie Jones with 19 assists, three digs and one ace on the night.
Bergren finished with nine kills, nine digs and two aces. Thompson ended with six kills and three blocks. Terrell finished with six kills as well as three aces.
Addison Ferrel finished with two kills, three digs and two aces. Savannah Hollander tallied nine digs too.
With the win, Fairfield will travel to Davenport Assumption for a matchup with the No. 4 Knights (25-7). Assumption advanced with a 3-0 win over Washington on Tuesday night.
