CENTERVILLE — After a rough night in Burlington one night prior, one Fairfield basketball team was able to bounce back in a non-conference doubleheader in Centerville on Tuesday night.
After falling 73-42 on Monday night in Burlington, the Trojan boys got back in the winner’s column with a 64-50 victory against a previously one-loss Centerville team.
The Trojans were down by one point after a quarter, trailing 20-19, but put together one of their best runs of the season in the second period. Fairfield outscored Centerville 20-8 in the second and took a 39-28 lead into halftime.
Fairfield also won each of the two quarters in the second half, using consistent play all night long to bump their overall record to 2-6.
Fairfield’s girls' team had similar back luck in Burlington, as the Grayhounds nearly doubled up the Trojans, 63-32.
On Tuesday night, Fairfield fell 52-35, competing in every quarter but never winning one in a non-conference defeat.
The Trojans trailed 12-7 after one quarter and 26-16 at halftime, going into the third quarter down just 10. Fairfield’s offense, however, could never put up more than 10 points in a quarter, falling to 1-8 overall.
That sets Fairfield up for an important night in Mt. Pleasant on Friday night. The Trojan girls will be playing the only other winless team in the SEC, while both the Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant boys look for their second win in league play.
