FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield boys basketball team looked good in the first quarter of a home non-conference battle against Ottumwa. Unfortunately for the hometown fans, the Bulldogs controlled the last three quarters.
Ottumwa came into Fairfield and knocked off the Trojans 60-34, handing the Trojans their third loss in a row.
Fairfield came out firing in the first quarter. The Trojans led 11-9 after the first horn, but it was all Ottumwa from that point forward.
The Bulldogs rallied back to take a 24-16 lead at halftime. Ottumwa stretched that lead to 46-26 after three quarters.
“It’s a lack of maturity on our part,” said Trojan head coach Nate Perkins. “We get out there, and we get kind of shell shocked at times.“
Riley Perkins scored 16 points in the loss. Sam Weaton finished with five. Luke Konczal had four points. Andrew Myers and Axl Starr each scored two points, and Ousman Saine finished with one.
The Trojans fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in Southeast Conference play with the loss. Fairfield hosts Washington (1-3, 0-1) on Friday night.
