Trojan tennis tops Mustangs by one set for second victory of the season

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield boys tennis won a close one on Tuesday night against the Mustangs of Davis County.
The Trojans picked up a 5-4 victory over the Mustangs as it was a match that was decided in doubles.
Fairfield’s Garrett Flanagan suffered a tough loss in his opening match to Davis County’s Dean Bragg 3-6. Flanagan dominated from then on out.
The Trojan’s No. 1 closed out the match 6-1 and 10-1 in the tie breaker.
Jace Hannes took care of business in the No. 2 match with a pair of wins for the Trojans, 6-2 and 6-0 over Jaxson Lee.
The Trojan’s Ethan Cass grabbed a nice 6-4 win in his opening match to Luke Farley, but fell in the second 4-6 and then was topped in the tie breaker 2-10.
No. 4 Rylan Anderson was defeated in back-to-back sets to Cayler Wuthrich, 2-6 in each.
Niko Emerson was the opposite. Emerson fell in his opening set 4-6, but turned around and won the second 6-3 and the tie breaker 10-7 over Gavin Klaus.
Fairfield’s Rocky Galusha was defeated by the Mustang’s Syrus Benge 0-6 in both sets.
Heading into doubles, the Trojans and Mustangs were tied 3-3.
In doubles, the duo of Flanagan and Hannes downed Benge and Lee 6-4 and 6-1.
Hurlin and Emerson battle back after an opening 2-6 loss with a 6-3 second set win, but the pair were topped 8-10 in their tie breaker.
Anderson and Galusha fell in their opening match as well 3-6. The pair bounced back with a 6-2 victory in set two and sealed the Trojans win with a 14-12 tie breaking win.
