Fairfield boys golf takes third in Albia

ALBIA — The Fairfield boys golf team tried their luck against eight other teams in Albia on Tuesday. The Trojans bested most of the field, but finished just behind team champion Knoxville and the hosting Blue Demons.
Fairfield shot a 349 on the day. That was 18 strokes behind Knoxville (331) and one back of second-place Albia (348).
Max and Sam Weaton represented well, finishing second and third respectively. Max shot a 75 to finish way out ahead of most of the field, and Sam shot an 83. Knoxville’s Evan Smith shot a three-under 69 to win the meet.
Evan Haines was the third Trojan scorer, at 94. Dev Eisner shot 97. Nile Christensen finished at 100, and Austin Lisk scored 101.
The top junior varsity golfer for the Trojans was Trey Hunter, who put up a 91.
