Fairfield boys? golf team wins in Williamsburg

The Fairfield boys? golf team won by one stroke in Williamsburg Thursday.

Fairfield finished with the score of 153, while Williamsburg scored 154. Oskaloosa scored a 186.

The Trojans played without No. 4 golfer Alex Shier, who sat out because of a back injury. Five out of Fairfield?s six golfers shot a 42 or below.

?This is great prep for us if we are fortunate enough to move on when it?s time for sectionals,? Fairfield coach Mick Flattery said. ?Williamsburg has a very good team so this was a good win on their course.?

Fairfield senior Matt Carr led the Trojans with a 35 (1-under-par). Carr had two birdies and shot 2-under-par on par-5 holes.

Nick Higgins shot a 38 and Landon Gamrath shot a 39. Joe Hietpas finished with a 41 and Dillon Shelby shot a 42.

The golf team will host Eddyville-Blakesburg Monday.
