Fairfield boys prepare for new track season
The Fairfield boys? track and field team comes into the 2014 season looking to replace 15 seniors from last year?s team.
Two of those seniors in particular left behind rather large shoes to fill. Daniel Schwarz was the state champion in the high jump, while Jonny Swanson placed third at the state meet in the 110-meter hurdles and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Fairfield boys? track and field team comes into the 2014 season looking to replace 15 seniors from last year?s team.
Two of those seniors in particular left behind rather large shoes to fill. Daniel Schwarz was the state champion in the high jump, while Jonny Swanson placed third at the state meet in the 110-meter hurdles and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Fairfield boys? track coach Brian Dunlap is looking to his new senior class to pick up the slack. Jonathan Hoehne, Kooper Dahlstrom, Nathan Haerr and Austin Francisco will be central to the Trojans rebounding this season. Francisco won the Most Improved Award at the track banquet last season.
?Right now we are really working on our general strength and conditioning, and will start to work on event specific training as we move into outdoor season,? Dunlap said.
The Trojans will compete tonight in Pella at the indoor track at Central College. The next event for Fairfield will be a Southeast Conference matchup at Washington.
Here are some of the individuals on the team and the events they?re expected to run in this season. Many of the athletes will do multiple events.
Hurdles: Francisco, Nick Jackson, Robert Cupp, Justin Swanson, Logan Angstead, Kyle Roberts and Brandon Gaylord.
Throwers: Michael Fritz, Cameron Baumann, Brett Scott, Cody Craff and Trenton Hanen.
Mid-distance and distance events: Haerr, Walker Allen, Elijah Parr, Zane Richmond, Zach Martin and Colin Williams.
Sprinting: Dahlstrom, Hoehne, Alex Christensen, Alex Crile, Federico Ferretti, LaQuan Hill, Narendra Martin, Dakota Nye, Jordan Reid, Hunter Symmonds, Lewis Thomes, Jacob Unkrich and Joseph Wilbur.
