Fairfield and Fort Madison went at it in a pair of Southeast Conference games on Friday night. The Trojan boys scored a dominant 51-33 road win, but the girls were upended 67-17 at home.
The Trojan boys didn’t get off to the best of starts. Fort Madison held the Trojans to just six points in the first quarter, but Fairfield turned an 8-6 deficit into a 21-18 lead by halftime.
The Trojans dominated the second half, outscoring the Bloodhounds 16-7 in the third quarter and 14-8 in the fourth.
Max Weaton had a fantastic night down low, scoring 19 points and pulling down 18 rebounds to lead the Trojans. Ryan Higgins added 10 points of his own.
Tate Allens and Cooper Polonsky each scored seven points in the win. Sam Weaton had four. Riley Perkins and Isaac Harris each had two.
The Trojan boys were without the services of previously leading scorer JJ Lane.
In Fairfield, the Trojan girls took a while to get started offensively. The Bloodhounds led the Trojans 14-0 after one quarter, and by the time Fairfield’s offense got into it, the Bloodhounds had a comfortable lead.
The Fort Madison girls led 36-11 at halftime and 50-15 after three quarters.
The Fairfield boys are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The girls are 0-5 and 0-2. The Trojans play at Pella in a girl-boy doubleheader on Tuesday night.
