WASHINGTON, Iowa ? Fairfield boys? soccer head coach Felisto Guezimane knew his team was capable of an offensive outburst.
The head coach certainly had a front row seat for one Thursday in Washington, as the Trojans poured in the goals vs. the rival Demons for a resounding 8-0 win.
?This was a good game for us,? said Guezimane. ?We?ve been struggling to score goals, but tonight we broke loose.?
Overall, four players netted goals for the Trojans on Thursday. Kyle Thomas broke loose for three of them, Stian Hoff and Darrin Dimmitt each scored two goals, and Roan Bachar added one score. Assisting on the goals were Hoff with two, Roan Bachar with two and Max Sloat tallying one. The player of the game, said Guezimane, was Hoff.
The Trojans thoroughly dominated, and from the opening moments possession was squarely on the away team?s side. The closest the Demons were to landing on the scoreboard was a penalty kick in the first half, but Washington?s attempt hit the post and they never came close again. Fairfield goalkeeper Aidan Bachar had one save, but it was the play at midfield that kept the Demons from getting anywhere near the goal.
?Good performances by Jaimini Boender and Darrin Dimmitt in the middle field,? said Guezimane. ?We didn?t give much room for the Demons to play. They made a few runs, but our defense had the game under control.?
The Trojans have a tough week ahead with three games against top teams, including Knoxville, Ottumwa and conference rival Keokuk.
