KALONA ? The Fairfield boys? soccer team was the winner of one of two games Saturday at the IMS Invitational.
The Trojans won their semifinal matchup 3-2 over Fort Madison before falling 1-0 in the championship contest to host IMS.
According to head coach Felisto Guezimane, bad refereeing marred what was otherwise a good tournament for the Trojans.
?I?m not one to blame referees for a loss, but this was by far the worst experience as coach I?ve ever had with bad refereeing,? the coach said. ?My team was not allowed to play and the calls were completely one-sided. We got every single call against us.?
Both teams battled back and forth in the championship game, with neither finding the scoreboard until IMS scored the winning goal with five minutes remaining.
In the win over Fort Madison, Fairfield?s Kendall Mickels, Roan Bachar and Darrin Dimmitt all scored goals. Assists came from Stian Hoff and Bachar.
?I couldn?t be more proud of my players for the tremendous play and showing great character and sportsmanship,? Guezimane said.
The Trojans (9-4) will take some time off before heading to the Mid-Prairie Invite Saturday.
