FORT MADISON — The Fairfield soccer team tried its shot at defending Southeast Conference champion Fort Madison on Thursday, but the Trojans couldn’t find any offense against a stacked Bloodhound team, falling 4-0 on the road.
Despite getting outshot, Fairfield stuck close to Fort Madison in the first half. The Bloodhounds had one goal in the opening period and led 1-0 at the break.
Unfortunately for the Trojans, the floodgates began to open in the second half. Fort Madison put up three more goals to pull away with the four-goal victory.
It was the closest the Trojans have played the defending champions since 2021. Fort Madison defeated Fairfield by seven and five goals respectively in 2022.
Five different Trojans had shots on the day, but the only shot on goal came from Richard Curtis. Miles Siemsen, Ousman Saine, Everett Elliason and Andrew Titze all recorded shots.
Fort Madison’s Xander Wellman and Jacob Shottenkirk each scored two goals. Mikael Anderson made five saves in net.
Fairfield is now 1-1 on the year. The Trojans had previously shut out WACO on March 30.
The Trojans play host to Burlington on Monday, April 10. Results from that game will be in Wednesday’s edition of the Union.
