AMES ? The Fairfield boys track team took a select few up to the Iowa State Indoor meet Tuesday night for what head coach Brian Dunlap calls just another tune up for the outdoor meets, which will commence in a few weeks.
Sophomore Grant Curran continued his impressive start to the season with a 17th-place finish, out of 104 competitors, in the 60 meter hurdles. Curran has already clocked an 8.58 second finish in the event this season and ran a 9.09 Tuesday in Ames.
?Curran was the highlight again, but [Derek] Byrnes running a personal record and [Anatole] Openshaw both looked good in the mile,? Dunlap said. ?The sprinters looked OK and we passed the sticks well in the 4x1.?
Byrnes? time of 5:08 placed him 46th, and Openshaw ran a 5:30. The 4x100 team of Michael Hammes, Lani Eversage, Austin Atwood and Cody Norton placed 17th in a time of 46.17.
Other results on the evening were Curran running a 56.28 and Eddie Acevedo finishing in 59.86 in the 400-meter dash, and Norton leading Fairfield with a 7.53 and a 53rd place finish in the 60-meter.
In Fairfield?s lone field event, Rebling leaped 18 feet five inches in the long jump ? good for 32nd place. Acevedo also competed in the long jump with best of 17 feet 2.25 inches.
The Trojans will be back on the track with their final indoor meet Friday on the campus of Central College with the Central Indoor.
