Fairfield boys’ wrestling edges Burlington

BURLINGTON — The Fairfield boys wrestling team is now 2-0 in the Southeast Conference after a road win in Burlington on Thursday night.

The Trojans had to fight for every inch against the Grayhounds, taking the dual by just four points, at 42-38.

Fairfield lost the first four matches, but then rattled off seven of the next eight. During that stretch, the Trojans got pins from Cason Miller at 157, Dain Burkhart at 175, Brody Lyons at 190 and Dre Smithburg at 285.

Fairfield led 42-30 with two matches to go. The Grayhounds won the last two, but couldn’t get the full six points in either matchup.

The Fairfield girls picked up two pins on the night. Both Samantha Lyons (170) and Alyia Abbott (110) scooped up pins, and Fairfield had six more points from a forfeit, but fell 66-18.
