FAIRFIELD — Fairfield boys basketball struggled to its mojo on Tuesday night in a home contest against the Crusaders of Holy Trinity Catholic.
What turned out to be a tough shooting night for the Trojans, ended up as a 57-33 loss.
It was tough from the get for Fairfield. The Trojans only lead of the night was on the first bucket of the game on a layin from Eli Zillman.
However, the Crusaders quickly turned it into a 10-2 advantage.
The Trojans got it back down to five off a three from Andrew Myers, but the Crusaders ended it on a 10-4 run to make it 20-9 after the first period.
In the second, Fairfield battled back. HTC extended its lead to 25-9 in the first couple minutes of the period, but the Trojans answered with the three ball.
A Myers three ball sparked a 11-2 run by the Trojans to the end of the quarter. In all, Fairfield hit three from beyond the arc.
At halftime, HTC led 27-20.
Coming out of the break and through the second half, the Trojans’ struggles hit hard.
In the third period, Fairfield was held to just one field goal and scored just four points. The Crusaders built their lead to 38-24 by the quarters end.
Through the second half as a whole, the Trojans connected on just five field goals, four of those coming in the fourth.
