Fairfield can?t keep up with Washington?s school-record pace
WASHINGTON ? On a pleasant day at Washington Golf and Country Club, Kyle Menke hit his way to medalist honors with a round off 33 to help Fairfield to their lowest team round of the year. Unfortunately for the Trojans, Washington shot their lowest round of 2009, and set a school record to boot, to come away with the 139-156 victory in a Southeast Conference clash.

Menke?s sank three birdies and just missed on two other putts, and his 33 ties the lowest round head coach Mick Flattery has seen in his seven years of coaching ? best since Nick Juskewycz did it in 2006. Menke duked it out in the same pairing as Washington?s Braden Gaal and Joe Harris who ended up with a 34 and 35, respectively. Fairfield?s Derek Byrnes joined the group carding a 38 and has now put in four straight rounds under 40.
?Our top two vs. Washington?s top two ended up being 71-69 ? super playing from four high school students,? Flattery said. ?It was a fabulous round from Washington as a team on their home course.?
Davis Lowenberg tallied a 42 and Colton Fry entered his round of 43 into the varsity score for Fairfield. In other scores for the Trojans, Jordan Leazer shot a 44 and Cody Kool ended with a 49. In JV play, Willie Ghent eagled the 260-yard par-four sixth and concluded the round with 51 strokes.
