MARION — Fairfield boys basketball’s season came to a close on Monday night with a loss to Marion in the first round of the Class 3A District 4 bracket.
Despite keeping the game close through the first half, the No. 6 Wolves proved to harness to much fire power, walking away with a 66-38 victory over the Trojans.
Fairfield gave Marion all it had.
After one quarter of action, it was the Trojans who held the early advantage. Fairfield put together its best scoring quarter of the night in the first, dropping in 14 points, while holding the Wolves to 13.
That would be the Trojans final lead of the night.
Marion turned the game to its favor through the second period, holding the Trojans to just seven points. The Wolves added 13 to their total to make it 26-21 at the break.
With the Trojans only down six, they were very much still in it. However, the Marion offense didn’t miss a beat in the second half.
The Wolves went on to outscore the Trojans 19-13 in the third and finished it off with a lopsided 21-4 fourth.
Sam Weaton led Fairfield with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists. Luke Konczal added 10 points and seven boards. Riley Perkins finished with five points. Eli Zillman had four and Ryan Giberson two.
With the loss, Fairfield ends its season at 1-21.
