Fairfield drops 3 of 4 on the diamonds against Burlington
Trojan softball team splits, baseball team swept in home games against Grayhounds

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield softball and baseball teams’ Southeast Conference schedule kicked off with a mountain of a four-gamer with Burlington on Thursday night. The third-ranked Trojan softball team split with the Hounds, winning 6-3 and losing 8-5. The baseball team fell twice to the defending SEC co-champions, falling 8-0 and 12-0.
The Trojan softball team rallied back from a 3-0 deficit in Game 1, scoring three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Coty Engle, Brynley Allison, Jenna Norris and Delaney Breen all had RBIs, and Engle won the game in the circle.
In Game 2 of softball, the Trojans trailed 8-2 going into their final at-bat but scored three in the seventh to give the Grayhounds a late threat. Hannah Simpson went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Norris was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Engle had one RBI.
The Fairfield baseball team had three hits in its two losses against Burlington. Wyatt Baker had all three. Baker went 1-for-2 with a single in Game 1, and Baker went 2-for-2 with two singles in Game 2.
The Trojan baseball team was coming off a 6-5 win against Chariton on Wednesday. They are now 2-5. The softball team is 3-5 after falling 14-0 to Muscatine and 7-5 to Bettendorf over the weekend.
