Fairfield eighth-grade boys open season with win
The Fairfield eighth-grade boys? basketball team kicked off the delayed season opener Tuesday with the ?A? team routing Washington 35-18.
Fairfield?s Alex Crile and Jordan Reid combined for all but four of the Trojans? points; Crile scored 16 and Reid had 15. Reid also posted team highs in boards (7) and assists (6), while Crile nabbed three steals.

?It?s good to finally get to play a game,? said Fairfield coach Tony Vandegriff. ?The kids played hard, but they know to beat Ottumwa Thursday our focus needs to be sharper.?
Jacob Unkrich scored seven points and Drew Stever had four in a 16-13 loss to Washington in the ?B? game.
The ?C? team lost 18-8.
The eighth-graders will travel to Ottumwa Thursday.
