After winning the Southeast Conference title outright on Tuesday, the Trojans of Fairfield ended the week with a pair of tough losses.
Fairfield (21-9) suffered back-to-back defeats from the hand of Clear Creek-Amana (20-13) on Wednesday and Solon on Friday (26-10).
Against CCA, the Trojans fell behind early and could never make up the difference in the shutout loss.
The Clippers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never gave it up. Fairfield did all they could defensively, pitching a shutout through the second frame, but nine runs from CCA in the third all but ended it. The Clippers tacked on one more in the fourth.
CCA was nearly flawless on the hill, giving up just one hit. Meanwhile, the Clippers tallied 12 hits themselves.
Nate Konczal notched the Trojans only hit in the loss.
In the Trojan’s matchup with Solon, it was they who held the reins early on, but they couldn’t hold it.
Fairfield scored the first and its only run of the game off a Luke Konczal home run in the second inning.
The Trojans defense stood tall, holding the Spartans scoreless for four straight innings, but Solon founds its stride in the bottom half of the fifth.
Solon scored five straight runs in its half of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run homer from Brett White.
Fairfield couldn’t get the runs back.
The Trojans will take on Pella (22-8) on Monday and follow up with their postseason opener against Keokuk (7-15) on Friday.
