FORT MADISON — Fairfield could do no wrong on Tuesday night in Fort Madison for two sets.
Fort Madison then battled back, but in the end the fast start was enough to propel the Trojans to victory, 24-14, 25-18, 26-28 and 25-23.
Fairfield (10-9) jumped out to early leads in each of the first two sets and never looked back.
The Trojans scored the first four points of the frames and Fort Madison (3-18) never got closer than five points in the opener. Fort Madison was down by as much as 11 in the second.
Fairfield looked as if they would do the same in the third as it jumped out to a 12-7 lead.
However, a quartet of hitting errors eventually turned into the game tying at 13.
Two aces and a miss placed ball by the Trojan put Fort Madison up 16-13.
The two squads tied 10 times in the set, lastly at 26-26.
From then on, the Bloodhounds scored a tip and a kill to end the third.
The fourth was yet another close one.
The Trojans held match point at 24-22, but the Bloodhounds were able to pull within one.
Fairfield was able to get the job done with a Claire Thompson kill.
The Trojans are off the rest of this week. They will be back in action next Tuesday against Mt. Pleasant.
