FAIRFIELD — Fairfield boys basketball got some revenge on Tuesday night against the Clippers of Clear Creek-Amana.
The Clippers were the ones who ended the Trojans season last year, but Fairfield was able to flip the outcome in the two’s regular season meeting this time around, 57-54.
Fairfield controlled for the majority of the matchup, but a late push by Clear Creek nearly sent the game to overtime. In the end, Trojans were able to stave off the Clippers for the win.
Through all four quarters, Fairfield trailed only once, that being in the first quarter at 10-9.
The Trojans went on to outscore the Clippers 18-14 in the first and 17-12 in the second to lead 35-26 at the half.
In the third, Fairfield continued to increase its lead. The Trojans scored 12 to the Clippers seven in the third period giving them a 14 point advantage heading into the fourth, 47-33.
Clear Creek began to rally through the final quarter.
With 18.4 second remaining in the game and a 56-54 lead, Fairfield split at the line to make it a three point game, 57-54.
The Clippers got the ball with a shot to tie. With four seconds to go, Clear Creek got the shot off, but the ball fell short and Fairfield was able to hang on for the win.
