FORT MADISON — The Trojan men fell in their third straight game Friday night against Southeast Conference (SEC) rival Fort Madison, 61-50.
In the first half, it was all Fort Madison.
The Trojans had trouble finding the basket, but found themselves only down by five until a three at the buzzer put the Bloodhounds up 13-5 at the end of the first.
Scoring woes continued in the second for the Trojans as they went just under three minutes without a basket and Fort Madison took advantage.
Fairfield was outscored 15-7 in the second and another buzzer beating three going into halftime gave Fort Madison a 28-12 lead.
Things changed in the third.
The Trojans came out with a chip on their shoulder, holding the Bloodhounds to just two points until the final two seconds of the quarter. Fairfield bounced back, cutting the lead to just seven points after a 13-4 third quarter. Fort Madison led after three, 32-25.
In the fourth, both teams went on scoring rampages, but the closest the Trojans came to tying the game was five points.
A slew of runs by the Bloodhounds was enough to extend and protect the lead.
Fort Madison scored a lofty 29 points in the fourth alone, while Fairfield scored 25.
Fairfield moves to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in SEC play.
Next up, the Trojans will host Pella on Tuesday, Dec. 14.
