KEOKUK — The Fairfield boys soccer team pulled off a rare 15-goal victory on Monday at Calvert Stadium in Keokuk.
Due to Iowa High School Athletic Association rules, if a team is winning by 10 goals or more in the second half, the game ends via mercy rule, but the Trojans showed they could score as many as they wanted in the first period.
Fairfield’s first of 15 first-half goals came off a Keokuk own goal. From there, the Trojans saw goals from eight different players.
Xavier Kapijimpanga scored four goals and added three assists for the Trojans. Blake Jarmosco had two goals and an assist, and both Drake Drish and Juan Rojo finished with two goals.
Christian Bowman finished the game with one goal and one assist. Carter Stark, Kyle Jeffrey and Jaxen Allen each scored one goal.
Dagan Burnett had two assists for the Trojans. Jacob Bland and Ethan Nebinger had one assist each.
Kyle Schubick didn’t have to do much in net, but he did finish with two saves, including one on a penalty kick to preserve the shutout.
The Trojans are now 8-3 overall. They finished the SEC slate at 7-3, tied with Washington for second place.
