FORT MADISON — The Fairfield girls basketball team went into Fort Madison on Friday night for its first Southeast Conference battle of the season. The Trojans couldn’t keep up with a talented Bloodhound squad, falling 55-19.
The Trojans struggled to stop the Bloddhound offense in the first half. Fort Madison led 16-5 after one period and 41-10 at halftime.
Fairfield’s defense buckled down in the second half, but by that time it was too little too late. The Bloodhounds outscored the Trojans 8-2 in the third quarter, and Fairfield took the fourth 7-6.
It was Fort Madison’s fourth win in a row in the rivalry. The last time Fairfield beat Fort Madison in girls basketball was on Dec. 10, 2021.
The Trojans are now 0-3 on the season. Fairfield plays Ottumwa at home on Tuesday night.
