The Trojans girls? soccer team dropped a 7-3 match in their home finale vs. Keokuk Monday evening.
Senior Taylor Neil scored two Trojan goals, with the other coming from sophomore Claudia Sloat. Serena Ward finished with two assists and Kayla Septer had one.
?Keokuk had the more experienced squad, but the girls continue to play better than they did at the beginning of the season,? said Fairfield head coach Roeland Hekker.
The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the Trojans, who entered Monday?s contest coming off consecutive wins against Columbus Junction and Ottumwa.
Fairfield kept up with Keokuk?s high-octane offense to start Monday, pouring in all three goals in the first half, but fatigue seemed to be the difference in the second half.
?We were too tired,? Hekker said. ?We couldn?t keep control of the ball, and that?s an area we?ve had to work on most of the season.?
The Chiefs, who led 4-3 at halftime, continued to score at a high rate in the second half and netted three more goals while holding the Trojans scoreless over the final 40 minutes.
In the JV contest, which was shortened to two 15-minute halves, Fairfield and Keokuk tied 0-0.
Fairfield?s JV and varsity squads conclude the regular season Thursday with a Southeast Conference contest in Washington. The Trojan varsity squad then kicks off the postseason May 29 with a home matchup vs. Columbus Junction.
