FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield girls basketball team certainly had their hands full on senior night, as the West Burlington Falcons came into town on Monday.
The Trojans couldn’t keep up with a 15-win Falcon team. West Burlington dominated early in a 61-33 West Burlington win.
West Burlington scored 20 points in the first quarter and 21 more in the second, as the Falcons cruised out to a 41-17 halftime lead. By the time the Trojans could spar with them, the game was out of reach.
“We wait too long,” said Fairfield head coach Rebecca Becker. “We came out in the second half, and we did things harder.”
Fairfield struggled to contain West Burlington senior Abbey Bence, who put up 34 points on the night, including four 3-pointers. In all, the Falcons hit nine shots from outside.
The Trojans were led by Savannah Hollander, who scored 11 points to pace Fairfield. Lone senior Ashlyn Lisk had seven.
After the game, Coach Becker talked about the impact of her lone senior this season.
“I’ve done this a long time, and she’s one of those ones that you’ll never forget,” said Becker after the game. “She has been a tremendous leader. She is one of those seniors that coaches dream about having.”
Briana Steele scored five points for the Trojans. Grace Lyon had four. Maddie Jones scored three, and Faith Jones finished with two.
