Fairfield girls out of regionals

No. 4 Solon eliminates Trojans from Class 3A tournament

SOLON - The Fairfield girls basketball team went into Solon on Saturday night to take on Class 3A’s fourth-ranke dteam. The Spartans were too much for the Trojans, beating them 78-22.

Fairfield struggled to keep the Spartans down in the first half. Solon scored 29 points in each of the first two quarters to lead 29-8 after one quarter and 58-10 at halftime.

Fairfield played Solon much closer in the third quarter. The Spartans led 72-18 after three quarters and outscored the Trojans 6-4 in the fourth.

Fairfield finished the season 3-17 on the year. The Trojans picked up a home win over Centerville and road wins at both Van Buren County and West Burlington, all by double digits.

Solon moved on to the Class 3A Region 5 semifinals on Wednesday night against Davis County.
