Fairfield girls run Thursday
PELLA ? The Fairfield girls? track and field team continued its indoor preseason schedule at the Central Indoor in Pella Thursday night.

PELLA ? The Fairfield girls? track and field team continued its indoor preseason schedule at the Central Indoor in Pella Thursday night.
Sydney Howard starred for the Trojans as she came up with a winning time of 7.2 seconds in the 55-meter dash. The sophomore also led off the second-place 4x200 relay before handing off to a trio of freshmen ? Huma Liptak, Whitney Engle and Hanna Greiner. The quartet finished in 1:56.
Greiner also came up with a first-place finish in the high jump as she was one of three jumpers who cleared the bar at 5-feet, 0-inches. Fellow freshman Marisa Repp cleared 4-feet, 10-inches to take fourth place.
Jessica Lamb added another runnerup finish for Fairfield as she finished the 1,500-meter run in 5:19.
Pekin hosts 12 teams
PELLA ? The Pekin boys? track and field team was among 12 teams at the Central Indoor Thursday and claimed one victory.
Derek Morales was the shot put champ as the senior bested the rest of the field by two feet with a throw of 47-feet, 4-inches.
Bryce Sines added a second-place results in the high jump with a best leap of 6-feet, 4-inches.
The Panthers? 4x400 squad of Eli Harper, Grahm Wittrock, Quinton Garrels and Sines was third in a time of 3:52.40.
Good start for Rachford, Cardinal
PELLA ? The Cardinal boys? track and field team had an impressive showing in its first competition of the year Thursday in Pella.
AJ Rachford began his senior season with the Comets? lone first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.71. Rachford also placed second in the 55-meter dash with a clocking of 6.64.
The 4x200 team of Marcus Giltner, Brandon Warren, Jimmy Edwards and Sid McMartin was also a runner-up finishing in 1:40.11.
Giltner, Warren, Rachford and McMartin teamed up to run 4:33.09 in the 1600-medley relay to place third.
