FAIRFIELD — Fairfield girls soccer picked up win number three on the season Tuesday night with a 3-0 shutout victory over Knoxville.
It didn’t take long for the Trojans to get going in the bout as they found points just two minutes in. With a steady amount of pressure through the opening stages the Panthers backline broke.
Freshman midfielder Lexi Mast found a streaking Emma Metcalf just outside the box and Metcalf slipped the ball past the Panther keeper for the first points of the night.
Knoxville kept the pressure up themselves on the other end, but some great goalkeeping by Johana Mora held the Panthers without a goal. Mora finished with six saves in the win.
In the second half, the Trojans continued to fire away as Lenora Felt and Haleigh Strickland both notched goals to put the game on ice.
Along with Mast first half assists, Felt and Fatima Baez both tallied assists as well.
Fairfield fired off an abundance of shots in the win, sending 31 toward the net with 18 on target. Strickland and Metcalf ended with a combined 26 shots between them.
On Monday, the Trojans were in action as well. They were defeated by Keokuk 4-2 in that contest.
The Trojans move to 3-3 with the win and will take on Burlington at home on Thursday.
