CENTERVILLE — The Fairfield girls soccer team played their last game of the season on Monday night, as the Trojans couldn’t solve the Centerville Redettes in the Class 1A Region 3 tournament at Lakeview Sports Complex.
Just four days after falling by six goals against the Redettes, Fairfield hung with Centerville defensively, but could never find the offense in a 2-0 defeat.
Centerville scored one goal in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break. The Redettes added one more goal in the second half.
Centerville moved on to play top-seeded Van Meter in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The winner of that game will take on either Mid-Prairie or Central Lee in the semifinals. Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union plays Pella Christian on the other side of the bracket.
The Trojans finished the season 1-15, though Fairfield played its best soccer in the 10 days of the season. Along with winning their first game of the year, 5-2 against Oskaloosa, on May 12, Fairfield played Keokuk within one goal on May 8.
