OSKALOOSA — It took until the final game of the regular season, but the Fairfield girls soccer team has won a game.
After dropping their first 13 games of the season, the Trojan girls were finally able to celebrate after a 3-1 win over Oskaloosa on Friday.
Fairfield and Oskaloosa were tied 1-1 at the half. Trojan senior Delaney Breen had the lone score in the opening period, and then broke the tie in the second, making it 2-1.
Haleigh Strickland sent in the dagger later in the second half to give the Trojans a 3-1 victory.
The win came on the heels of a 10-0 loss to Centerville one night earlier.
The Trojan boys went 1-1 over the Thursday-Friday stretch as well. Fairfield mopped up the Big Red boys 10-0 on Thursday before falling 3-1 at Oskaloosa on Friday.
Carter Stark, Joey Valdez and Andrew Twohill each had three goals for the Trojan boys on Thursday against Centerville. Andrew Titze scored once.
On Friday, Stark had the Trojans’ only goal of the game.
Both teams will face Oskaloosa in the first round of the postseason. The Trojan boys (5-8) will aim for revenge on this Thursday. On Friday, the girls’ team (1-13) will get its shot. Both games are in Oskaloosa.
