Fairfield girls tennis defeats Burlington for second conference win
Trojans win five of six singles matches in victory over Grayhounds

Fairfield girls tennis picked up its second straight Southeast Conference victory on Thursday night with a 6-3 win over Burlington.
The Trojans defeated Fort Madison 9-0 in their first SEC bout. Burlington entered the matchup with a 2-0 record in conference play.
Against the Grayhounds, the Trojans dominated the singles slate. Fairfield won five of six individual matchups, followed with one doubles win.
Poojita Mukadam took care of business in the number one matchup, defeating Burlington’s Annalise Buxton 8-4.
Fairfield’s Natalie Steele secured the only sweep of the singles matches, defeating Ava Moffett 8-0.
Sriya Yammanur had a good showing against Burlington’s Josie Newell in the threes matchup. Tammanur topped Newell 8-1.
The final two Trojan wins came in the four and six spot as Emma Wendland defeated Sydney Schroeder 8-3 and Faith Jones got the better of Leah Sieren 8-3.
Fairfield’s lone loss in singles was Mareyn Dunkin’s tough 8-6 defeat to Ruby Orr.
After singles, the Trojans had already secured the victory.
In doubles, Mukadam and Steele won big over Buxton and Moffett 8-1. That was the Trojans sole double victory.
Yammanur and Wendland fell to Schroeder and Orr 8-6. Dunkin and Jones were bested by Newell and Fawcett 8-4.
