Trojans drop match to visiting Bloodhounds

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield girls tennis team hosted Fort Madison in what turned into a barnburner at Fairfield Middle School on Monday.
It was the Bloodhounds who limped out of Fairfield with a one-match victory. The Trojans dropped games 5-4 to Fort Madison for a Southeast Conference defeat.
Fairfield did win three games in the singles competition. The Trojans’ top win came in the No. 2 match, where Maddy Greiner took out her opponent, 8-3.
No. 3 Emma Wendland won a nail-biter, 9-7. The only other Trojan singles win came from Lola Hatchette, at No. 6, who defeated her opponent, 8-5.
No. 1 player Sydney Wells had to settle for an 8-1 loss. Giteeka Adhikari lost 8-4 in the No. 4 game, and Una Carter fell 8-2 in the No. 5 match.
Fairfield’s lone doubles win came from Wendland and Adhikari, who took the No. 2 doubles match, 8-6. Doubles losses came from No. 1 Wells and Greiner, who dropped their match 8-1, and No. 3 Carter and Hatchette, who were defeated 8-5.
Fairfield is now 3-3 overall. The Trojans will host crosstown rival Maharishi on Thursday.
