FORT MADISON — It was another tight loss for the Fairfield girls tennis team on Monday. The Trojans dropped a one-point loss at Fort Madison, falling 5-4.
Fairfield’s top players showed out once again as Tess Paton and Syndey Wells picked up singles victories. Paton won the No. 1 singles match 8-2, and Wells took the No. 2 singles match 8-1.
The Trojans took a few tough losses in the other singles matches. Maddy Greiner fell 9-7 in the No. 3 match. No. 4 Giteeka Adhikari lost 9-8(6). Emma Wendland fell 9-7 in the No. 5 match, and Emily Simpson fell 8-4 in the No. 6 match.
The Trojans needed to sweep doubles to steal the win. Paton and Greiner won the No. 1 match 8-5, and Wells and Adhikari took the No. 2 match 8-2, but Wendland and Simpson were downed 8-2 in the No. 3 showdown.
Fairfield is now 1-5 on the year. Four of the Trojans’ six matches this year have ended 5-4, with the Trojans winning just one of those.
The Trojans will have a one-week break before hosting Burlington on April 25 in their next SEC matchup.
