Led by several top performances, including first place from Olivia Roberts in the shot put and Ashley Bloomquist in the 1500 and 3000, the Trojan girls' track team almost piled up enough numbers to take down Oskaloosa Tuesday night at the FHS oval.
'It went really well,” said head coach Jerrod Belzer. 'I think for the most part we achieved a lot of our big goals for the night. We won some big races, we had some girls that dropped a lot of time tonight and we had success in the field events, so really successful home meet for us.”

1500 Meter Run
First place went to Ashley Bloomquist who ran it in 5:18.35.
'It was my last race of the night and I just wanted to get it over with if I'm being honest,” said the Trojan senior.
'All of my teammates are so supportive of one another and my best friend Danae is somehow at every point in the race and then she's there at the finish and it's nice to have such a tight team, it makes it so much easier.”
3000 Meter Run
Bloomquist was first in 11:13.50 and looked like her push-the-limits cross country self when she collapsed into her bestie Denae's arms immediately after crossing the line.
'Coach talked about scoring as many points as possible during the meet, so I'm kind of being sacrificed for points right now,” said Bloomquist. 'The 3,000 I was going just to win it, but I got four laps in and I was hitting a good time and Belzer said I should keep pushing and I did and ended up getting my season best.”
Hailey Pohren-Gevock was fourth in 13:06.78.
'Every lap I'm really focused on what my time was on the last lap and what I'm going to have to gain time,” explained Pohren-Gevock. 'We do a lot where we learn to train our bodies to know how much faster we need to go for the next lap. I want to get back down to my PR which is a 12:32.”
Hailey on Ashley
'She's a really great teammate and she has helped me become a much better runner. You'll see some girls that won't eat a good meal the night before, but she is so driven and she has kept me that way. I look up to her a lot and she has kept me going and always making the right choices. She always helps me with the races and what to focus on and she's just a really good teammate overall.”
100 Meter Hurdles
Brynley Allison finished fourth with a time of 18.40 followed by Bergren who ran a 22.48.
400 Meter Hurdles
Allison ran a 1:21.98 for third overall.
'Brynley Allison ran really well tonight for us in each of her events,” said Belzer. 'She has been a real highlight for us this year.”
4x100 Meter Relay
Fairfield finished second with a time of 53.21 and Jill Dunlap, Alexis Jones, Carly Ferrel and Anna Dunlap running.
4x200 Meter Relay
Second again for Fairfield after Dunlap, Dani Breen, Malory Jones and Olivia Jones ran a combined 1:58.59.
4x400 Meter Relay
FHS was second in the combined mile, finishing in 4:42.96 with O. Jones, Pohren-Gevock, M. Jones and Lyon competing.
800 Sprint Medley
Third place was the finish for the Trojans who had Dunlap, O. Jones, Sophie Wallerich and A. Dunlap run a 2:04.78.
Distance Medley
Five more meters and Fairfield may have won this race after Bloomquist tried to track down her anchor counterpart.
'I had a 100 meter gap between me and the girl in first and I was able to close it to two seconds,” said Bloomquist. 'I just thought I needed to run fast for me and then she slowed down and I thought I need to run fast for my team now but I ran out of space. I only needed five more steps, it was so close.”
2nd Fairfield 4:40.69
Alexis Jones, Sophie Wallerich, Carly Ferrel and Ashley Bloomquist
4x100 Meter Shuttle Hurdle
FHS was third with a time of 1:19.62 and Allison, Ferrel, M. Jones and Rebling running together.
'We were trying to stay relaxed by communicating with each other,” said Allison, who ran leadoff. 'I started off really well and sprinted between the hurdles.”
Long Jump
5th Danielle Breen 14-05.25
8th Blair Bowman 13-00.00
'Today I jumped my personal best for the year,” said Bowman. 'I've been working on getting up and getting out and just focusing on my speed and getting up off my feet and seeing how far I can get.”
Shot Put
1st Olivia Roberts 33-11.50
5th Hannah Simpson 30-10.00
'I'm trying to improve on keeping my shoulders low and my body stayed down,” explained Simpson. 'I have a problem with that.”
Belzer on Roberts
'It's so important for us to have good throwers in a conference like ours so for Olivia to step up and be as good as she is right now, it's great for her individually and great for the team as well.”
