Fairfield pressured Davis County into a couple dozen turnovers, only coughed the ball up eight times and cruised to a 60-39 win Tuesday in Fairfield.
The Trojans (3-5, 0-2 SEC) have now won two straight games and three of the past four.
As a team, the Fairfield girls stole the ball 17 times, and Sidney Baumann, Serena Ward and Erin Thompson each recorded four of those steals.
?That was good because our girls just had different forms of pressure and we just kept going at ?em,? said Fairfield head coach Mick Flattery.
Davis County scored the first points of the contest in building an 11-6 lead, but a six-point flurry by the Trojans to end the quarter ? with points from Baumann, Taylor Neil and Ward ? handed the Trojans a 12-11 lead with one quarter in the books.
Ward opened the second period with a nothing-but-net 3-pointer, though sloppy play kept both teams off the scoreboard for more than three minutes. With 4:25 left in the second, Ward ended the teams? drought with a mid-range jumper to give the Trojans a 17-11 lead. The scoring drought continued for the Mustangs, and Fairfield?s defense allowed just three points the entire period to enter the half up 27-14.
The Trojans held a comfortable lead coming into the second half, and even though they failed to score over the final four minutes of the third quarter, they held a 12-point advantage entering the final period.
Fairfield maintained a patient approach on offense, however, going on a 12-4 run to open the final period and clinching the contest in the process.
Flattery was again pleased with the patience that has helped his team to recent wins, with the Trojans again averaging more than four passes per possession alongside a season-high 13 assists.
?We?ve been below double-digits the last couple of games and that was something we really tried to stress,? Flattery said of the assist total. ?We really need to make sure that we get going with distributing the basketball.?.
Ward led Fairfield with 21 points, 10 boards and four steals. Neil came off the bench and scored 10 points along with four assists. Tori Ogden had 10 points, and Thompson had nine points as well as six rebounds and four assists. Baumann finished the game with six points, five rebounds and four assists. Brittany Kurtz scored four.
?It was really just a great effort by all nine girls that got into the rotation,? added Flattery.
The Trojans travel to Keosauqua to face the Warriors Friday.
FAIRFIELD ? Ward 21, Neil 10, Ogden 10, Thompson 9, Baumann 6, Kurtz 4, Totals 60
3-point goals ? Ward 1. Rebounds ? Ward 10, Thompson 6, Baumann 5. Assists ? Neil 4, Thompson 4, Baumann 4. Steals ? Ward 4, Thompson 4, Baumann 4
