Fairfield heading to No. 10 Solon
Trojans look for back-to-back wins with victory over top-10 Spartans

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield picked up its second victory of the season last Friday with a comeback against South Tama 33-29.
The Trojans (2-5) will be looking to pick up back-to-back wins for the first time this season in a 3A district 5 road trip to No. 10 (Class 3A) Solon (5-2). It’s the Spartans’ senior night.
Solon started the season 5-0 and held the No. 1 ranking in the class just two weeks ago.
However, the Spartans’ are on a bit of a spiral after falling to then unranked, now No. 9, Benton two weeks ago 21-20 and most recently now No. 1 ranked Williamsburg 42-13.
Fairfield played both of those squads already. The Trojans played will Benton through three and a half quarters, but the Bobcats pulled away late for a 29-14 victory. Meanwhile, the Trojans were routed by Williamsburg 54-12.
The Spartans are going to be hungry as they work to get back on track.
Fairfield and Solon are similar in some areas, but different as well.
The Trojans like to get things done on the ground, rushing for 1,773 yards and 25 touchdowns. Through seven games, they’ve thrown for just 347 yards.
Solon on the other hand does both. The Spartans have thrown for 1,217 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding an additional 1,426 yards in the running attack with 18 scores.
Solon wins the takeaway battle 11-8.
Voss Richardson has thrown for 347 yards and two touchdowns for Fairfield.
Luke Konczal has ran for 717 yards and eight touchdowns. Zandrik Allison follows with 615 yards and seven scores. Ethan Bisgard adds 234 yards and five touchdowns.
On the receiving end, Bisgard paces the Trojans with 184 yards and one score.
Defensively, Konczal has 76.5 tackles. Bisgard has 25 tackles as well.
Bisgard, Wyatt Johnson and Calvin McLain all have a fumble recovery.
Zandrik Allison leads with two interceptions.
For Solon, Ty Bell has 1,182 passing yards and nine touchdowns.
Eddie Johnson has 854 yards and 12 scores on the ground. Cole Carney adds 260 yards and three touchdowns.
Maddox Kelley has 415 yards receiving with four touchdowns. Karsyn Regennitter has 23 catches for 237 yards and two scores.
Kelley has 40 tackles and four interceptions for Solon, while Kyler Jensen comes in with 31 tackles.
Friday’s matchup is set to begin at 7 p.m. Solon took last years head-to-head 42-6.
