WASHINGTON, Iowa ? The Fairfield JV boys? basketball team kept Washington quiet on offense Friday and cruised to a 38-29 victory on the Demons? court.
Matt Carr led Fairfield with 11 points, and Joseph Hietpas, Vincent Horras and Jordan Whitney each scored eight points. Kyle Weirup had two points and Austin Blomme chipped in one. Hietpas also had four assists, and Horras had a team-high 14 boards and two blocks.
Fairfield 66, Davis County 40
BLOOMFIELD ? Ten players scored for the Fairfield JV squad Tuesday to help lead the Trojans to their second straight win, a 66-40 victory over Davis County.
Fairfield jumped out to a 12-10 lead with one quarter in the books before extending its lead to 33-18 at halftime. Davis County cut the lead to 37-28 before the Trojans regrouped to take a 43-32 lead into the fourth quarter. The Trojans continued to play sound defense in the fourth and outscored the Mustangs 23-8 the rest of the way.
Carr led all scorers with 18 points and was 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Jordan Whitney and Vincent Horras each scored 10 points followed by Nathan Barker with nine on 7-for-8 free throw shooting. Also scoring for the Trojans were Joseph Hietpas with six, Kyle Weirup with five, Austin Blomme with three, Alex Shier and Keith Burns each with a basket, and Keagan Drish with one point. Shier tallied a team-leading three assists, and Horras again blocked two shots.
With the two wins, the Trojans improve to 3-2 overall and will look to stretch their win streak to three games when they travel to West Branch Monday.
