FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield high school junior varsity girls basketball team has gotten off to quite the start this season, and the Trojans kept that strong start alive with three-straight wins in the last two weeks.
On Friday night, the Trojans won their third game in a row, and in thrilling fashion. Kendra Allison got fouled with 10 seconds left facing a one-point deficit against the visiting Keokuk Chiefs. Allison hit both free throws, and the Trojans would go on to win 48-47.
Allison had 13 points against the Cheifs. Natalie Steele put up 11 points and eight rebounds, and Lauren Martin scored nine points.
The Trojans were coming off a dominant 20-point win over Davis County. Bella Buckley led the way in that one, scoring nine points and tallying three steals. Emma Metcalf had eight points and five rebounds on the night. Allison had six points and five rebounds Elyse Setterstrom pulled down a team-high seven boards.
The win before that came against Washington, where the Trojans would pull out a 46-30 victory. Setterstrom scored 10 points and yanked down five rebounds in that one. Buckley had nine points, and Metcalf scored eight.
The Trojans had previously lost a 56-43 game against Ottumwa, despite 10 points each from Setterstrom and Allison. Fort Madison got the best of the Trojans 40-35, despite 11 points from Allison and a 10-point, eight-rebound outing from Setterstrom.
All the previously mentioned games took place in December. The Trojans did have one contest in November, beating Oskaloosa 37-30 behind nine points each from Allison and Setterstrom, and an eight-point, eight-steal performance from Emma Metcalf.
