Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant volleyball compete in Ottumwa
Trojans walk away with pair of victories, Panthers go winless

OTTUMWA — Both the Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant volleyball teams headed to Ottumwa Evans Middle School on Saturday to compete in the Ottumwa Volleyball Invitational.
It was an up and down day for both Southeast Conference squads as the pair comprised of just two victories through 10 matches of volleyball.
Fairfield picked up the two wins, finishing with a tournament record of 2-3.
Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant finished the invitational at 0-5.
The Trojans picked up victories over Davis County and Mt. Pleasant through the competition.
Fairfield defeated Davis County pretty handily, taking the pair of sets, 21-12 and 21-16.
Against the Panthers, Fairfield grabbed another two set win. This time the Trojans were winners 21-10 and 21-16.
The Trojans losses came against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Albia and host Ottumwa.
EBF got the better of Fairfield after a trio of sets.
The Rockets and Trojans traded back-to-back sets with EBF taking the first 21-19 and then Fairfield the second 21-19.
However, the Rockets took the victory after dominating the third 15-5.
In the following two losses, Fairfield fell to Albia 21-16, 21-15 and then Ottumwa 21-14, 21-15.
As for Mt. Pleasant, along with the loss to Fairfield, the Panther fell to Albia, Ottumwa, Davis County and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont all in two sets.
Albia got the better of the Panthers 21-12 and 21-18.
Against Ottumwa, Mt. Pleasant was defeated 21-8 and 21-9.
In a hard-fought battle against Davis County, the Panthers were edged 21-15 and 23-21.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont downed Mt. Pleasant 21-9 and 21-12 in two sets.
After the completion of the tournament, Fairfield sits at 9-9. The Trojans will take on Fort Madison (3-14) on the road on Tuesday.
Mt. Pleasant moves to 4-18 on the season and will host Washington (6-14) on Tuesday.
