Fairfield, No. 6 Solon to do battle
Trojan have a chance to take district lead with victory over Spartans

FAIRFIELD — One of the biggest games of the year for Fairfield football will take place Friday night.
Under the lights and at home, the Trojans will welcome No. 6 (Class 3A) Solon.
The winner of the Class 3A district 5 clash will sit atop the district. Fairfield, Solon and Grinnell are all 2-0 in district play. Grinnell (3-3, 2-0) will take on West Burlington (1-5, 0-2) on Friday night.
For the Trojans (4-2, 2-0), they couldn’t have asked for a better last three weeks. Three weeks and three wins for Fairfield.
The Trojan’s last three victories include back-to-back last minute wins over Knoxville, 29-28 and Keokuk in overtime, 16-15. Last week, Fairfield won big over West Burlington, 53-7.
Leading the Trojans through the air, is Tate Allen. Allen has thrown for 1023 yards and 15 touchdowns on 54 completions.
On the ground, Allen also leads the way. From the quarterback position, he has rushed 69 times for 439 yards and five touchdowns. Miles McEntee follows with 209 yards and two touchdowns on 51 carries.
Max Weaton has 29 receptions on the season for 415 yards and eight touchdowns. Tallon Bates has 287 yards and three touchdowns as well on nine receptions.
Defensively, Lucas Konczal has a team-high 20 tackles. Sam Weaton has 16.5 tackles on the season.
Solon (4-2, 2-0) comes into the matchup off three straight wins as well. The Spartans downed Davenport Assumption, 35-10, West Burlington, 36-0 and Washington 44-0.
The Spartans two losses on the season came from the hands of Mount Vernon and Williamsburg.
Blake Timmons is under center for Solon. He has thrown for 677 yards and five touchdowns.
Brett White has 587 rushing yards and Timmons follows with 217 yards. Between the two, they have 16 total touchdowns.
Leading in receiving is Ryan Rasmussen, with 10 catches for 191 yards and a touchdown. Oaken Foster has 16 catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
On the defensive end, White leads with 53.5 total tackles. Solon has nine total interceptions on the season as well as two fumble recoveries.
Friday nights game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
