Fairfield opens season with victory over Van Buren County
Trojans score five unanswered through two innings on way to win over Warriors

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield softball kicked off its season with an 11-1 win on Monday night over Van Buren County.
The Trojans (1-0) when on to score five runs through the first two innings, which was more than enough to put the Warriors (0-1) away.
Van Buren County got on the board in the top half of the third on an RBI from Callie Kracht, but that’s all the Warriors could get.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Fairfield added six to its total in the bottom of the fifth to extend its lead.
Laney Norris led the Trojans going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Savannah Hollander went 1-for-2 with three RBIs.
Leah Helmick finished with two RBIs, while Lilly Bergren and Faith Jones each had one RBI.
Norris pitched a complete game, giving up three hits, one run with two strikeouts.
For Van Buren County, Rylee Caviness, Lexie Wiley and Ashlynn Huff all had one hit. Callie Kracht finished with the Warrior’s lone RBI.
