KEOKUK ? Times have started to roll downhill for the Fairfield girls? track and field team, and it became obvious at Tuesday?s Keosippi Relays in Keokuk.
Six different Trojans set a total of eight personal bests as Fairfield rolled to a second-place finish in the final team standings behind only Burlington.
?We really competed well, and with that many PR?s, you can tell we?re starting to make that push towards conference and regionals,? said head coach Ron Hunerdosse.
Fresh off of a career long shot put at the Drake Relays last week, Katie Hammes picked up where she left off winning both throwing events for including the shot put (38? 7.5?) and discus (105? 3?). Freshman Sidney Baumann reached her highest mark ever to help Fairfield place 1-2 in the discus with a throw of 98-feet, three-inches.
Miranda Metcalf and Kristen Terrell made the Fairfield throwers look even more impressive taking two of the top three spots in the JV discus event. Terrell posted a throw of 82-feet, nine-inches while Metcalf measured 74-feet, six-inches.
Fellow freshmen Hannah Sobaski and Tori Keltner posted best times in both the 400 and 800 and both ran on the Trojans? second-place 4x800 (10:39) team along with Tiffani Brush and Lindsey Borgomainerio.
Libbey Schubert swept through the sprint events again for Fairfield winning the 100 (12.51) and 400-meter dashes (1:01.98) as well as the 200 ? maybe her best event ? with her lowest time ever of 26.07. Sydney Howard came in second behind Schubert in the 100 with a time of 12.95.
Jessica Lamb added a second-place result in the open 800 with a time of 2:28.
Without any of its solid group of hurdlers, Fairfield still went fast in the 4x100 one meet removed from blazing around the blue oval at the Drake Relays. The combination of Edna Jones, Howard, Lamb and Schubert posted a time of 51.67 to win the event by nearly a full second. The victory was one of six on the evening for the Trojans ? all posted with the help of the two senior leaders Hammes and Schubert.
Fairfield will be on the track again Thursday at Marion.
