Fairfield rebounds from game one loss in Fort Madison
Trojans come up short in game one, bounce back in game two

FORT MADISON — Fairfield baseball was in action Monday night against Fort Madison in a Southeast Conference doubleheader.
The Trojans had their ups and downs on the night, with them coming up short in game one, 4-1, and bouncing back in game two 10-1.
In game one, the Trojans got on the board first but it was Fort Madison the rest of the way.
The Bloodhounds rattled off their four run between the second and fifth innings to edge the Trojans, scoring two in the second and one in both the third and fifth.
Cason Miller, Connor Lyons, Chandler Pumphrey and Tallon Bates all had a hit in the loss. Nate Smithburg had the Trojans lone RBI.
Lyons and Tate Allen each gave Fairfield three innings. The duo gave up a combined six hits, four runs (three earned), one walk, one hit by pitch and five strikeouts.
In game two it was all Fairfield.
The Trojans took a 5-0 lead after two innings of play. Fort Madison got one back in the fourth, but Fairfield scored five in the final three innings to complete the split.
Fairfield ended with seven total hits in the victory.
Lyons and Bates each had two hits for the Trojans. Bates also had two RBIs. Pumphrey, Smithburg and Nate Woodburn all had one. Pumphrey, Smithburg, Allen and Woodburn also all had an RBI.
Smithburg was stellar on the hill, allowing just four hits, one run, two walks and 12 strikeouts.
The Trojans, 12-11, with take on SEC leader Burlington on Thursday.
