Fairfield picked up its first win of the season with a strong offensive display against Knoxville last Friday. The Trojans rushing attack racked up 408 yards and five touchdowns in the victory.
The Trojans picked up some positive momentum as they head into district play. They’ll face their toughest test of the season with a matchup against No. 2 Solon on Friday.
Solon leads the series 8-0 since 2016. The two sides have been district foes in each of the last four seasons. In 2024, Solon knocked off Fairfield 61-19 at home.
Many of the Trojans current offensive talent was a part of that contest. Quarterback Voss Richardson threw just eight passes but was a part of a rushing attack that also included Ethan Bisgard and Zandrik Allison and racked up 264 yards and three touchdowns on the ground against the Spartans.
The trio of juniors have continued to power Fairfield on the ground this season, having accounted for 1,005 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Senior Spencer McCready has also had a strong 2025 campaign with 170 yards and three touchdowns.
Fairfield will need its offense firing on all cylinders to match a productive and talented Solon offense. The Spartans (4-0) are the last remaining unbeaten team in Class 3A District 4 with wins over Assumption, Williamsburg, Mount Vernon and Benton.
Unlike the Trojans, Solon generates much of its offense through the air. Quarterback Eli Kampman’s 884 passing yards rank No. 2 in Class 3A and his 11 touchdown throws is tied for the second most. Kaden Hoeper and Maddox Kelley each have five receiving touchdowns this season.
Defensively, the Spartans have had been productive in generating takeaways. Solon ranks No. 2 in Class 3A with six forced fumbles, including two by Kampman, and has recovered five of those. The Spartans also have five interceptions on the season. Ethan Ulch leads the team with two picks.
Kyler Jensen is Solon’s leading tackler with 36, which ranks No. 5 in Class 3A. James Thomsen has racked up four sacks, tied for the fourth most.
Kickoff between Fairfield and Solon is set for 7:30 PM Friday at Fairfield High School.
