MOUNT PLEASANT ? It was business as usual for the seventh-grade ?A? girls Monday in Mount Pleasant.
The Trojan ?A? team kept its undefeated season intact with a 41-26 win over the Panthers. Samantha Fritz scored 19 and Kylie Kurtz had nine to pace the Trojans. Jenna Crile scored four, Haley Beard tallied three points, and Kenady Waugh and Mikaela Lunsford added two each.
?Tonight was a good win for us. We weren?t at the top of our game but still fought hard and came out ahead,? said Fairfield coach Derek Philips. ?We have two practices to get back to where we should be and play our style of game.?
The Fairfield ?B? team saw its undefeated streak come to an end, however, falling 20-17 to Mount Pleasant. The Trojans took a 17-14 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Mount Pleasant scored six unanswered points for the victory. Sarah Swanson scored a team-high five points, Natalie Angstead and Maggie Ferrel added four apiece, and Kailey Kaska and Sarah Trent netted two each.
?Our girls played really hard but just ran out of gas at the end,? Philips said. ?We had our chances, but some shots just didn?t fall.?
The Trojan ?C? team turned a 10-0 halftime lead into a dominant 18-2 win. Amber Samuelson led the way with six points and Corynn Klehm added four points. Kaitlyn Steele, Sarah Hardin, Autum Wickenkamp and Nichelle Simmons scored two points apiece.
?We got out and ran better than we have all year. These girls have improved immensely from the beginning of the season and continue to get better every night,? Philips said.
The seventh-graders? next game is at home Thursday vs. Washington.
