FAIRFIELD — Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant boys soccer faced off for the second time this season and there was a bit of payback on the table.
The last time the two squads met, just over two weeks ago, Mt. Pleasant took the Southeast Conference victory with a 5-3 win.
This go around, it was Fairfield’s time to shine as the Trojans ‘pitched’ a 2-0 shutout.
In what was very much a physical game from the get go, with both teams playing to not to make mistakes.
That fact was evident as neither team struck in the first half, ending at 0-0.
In the second, the contest continued much like the first, but it was Fairfield who caught a break.
The first goal of the night was in the Trojans’ favor, but it came in the form of an own goal.
Mt. Pleasant’s mishap was all Fairfield would need to win it as the Panthers couldn’t find a goal of its own.
Late in the final 40 minutes, with all the momentum Fairfield added one more to its total with a through ball that slipped past the Panther’s back line and found the foot of Jaxen Allen, notching the final goal of the night.
Dylan White had eight shots with five on goal. Kohen Cass had two shots, two on goal. Kolbein Ostby had two shots, one on goal.
Xach LeBlanc had six saves at goalkeeper.
Jaxen Allen finished with the Trojans lone goal. Ezra Kuster finished with one assist. Kuster, Chaz Wohnoutka, Carter Stark and Danny Ellingaus all had two shots.
In goal, Dalton Drish finished with three saves.
