For the Fairfield boys and girls soccer teams on Monday, it was a tough night on the pitch against Fort Madison.
The Fairfield boys stayed home and played host to the Bloodhounds, while the girls were on the road.
Both squads suffered shutout losses at the hands of the Bloodhounds, with the boys falling 6-0 and the girls 10-0.
On the boys’ side of things, the Trojans held on for as long as they could against the No. 3 ranked Bloodhounds, but their offensive attack proved to be too much.
Fort Madison went on to score four goals through the opening half and Fairfield never had the answer.
The Trojans were able to limit the damage defensively in the second half, giving up just two additional goals, but they couldn’t find the back of the net.
Fort Madison took 24 total shots at goal with nine being on target.
The loss ends the Trojans win streak at two as they now sit at 3-4.
They will take on Burlington (5-3) on Thursday with the hope to avenge an earlier one goal loss to the Grayhounds.
On the girls’ side, Fairfield struggled to contain Fort Madison’s potent attack.
The Bloodhounds dropped in a whopping seven goals in the first half.
Fort Madison berated Fairfield with 31 total shots in the game, 18 of which were heading toward the target.
In the second, the Bloodhounds tacked on three more to end the game at 10.
With the loss, Fairfield still is searching for its first victory of the season at 0-8. They will get that opportunity on Thursday against Burlington (5-2).
